Mr. John A. MacLeod

DALTON- John A. MacLeod, 84, of Tower Rd., passed away at Craneville Place of Dalton following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on October 18, 1929 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of John A. and Teresa Stewart MacLeod. John graduated from Springfield Public Schools, and completed the four year draftsmen program at General Electric. He enlisted in the US Navy in July 1951, serving on the USS Warrington and was honorably discharged in July of 1955. He then returned to General Electric in Pittsfield and was employed as a draftsman in the ordnance division. He retired in 1991 after 42 years of service. John was one of the founding members of the Berkshire Highlanders Pipe Band, holding the office of secretary for many years and enjoyed traveling with the group to parades and events. His love of bagpipes led to him learning to play during his 50’s. His greatest joy was his spending time with his family. John was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dalton serving as a deacon at one time. He leaves his loving wife the former Florence R. Fravesi; they were married February 17, 1951, sons Philip S. MacLeod and his wife Judith of Dalton, MA, Michael A. MacLeod and his wife Diane of East Longmeadow, MA, David J. MacLeod and his wife Carol of Windsor, CT, daughter Kathryn J. MacLeod of Louisville, KY, grandsons Kevin, Alex, Matthew and Brendan MacLeod, granddaughters Allison Mikaniewicz, Andrea Scace and Alicia LaRonca, six great grandchildren, one great great grandson and sisters Carol Morse and Debra MacLeod of Springfield, MA. John was predeceased by a brother Edward MacLeod. FUNERAL NOTICE- Graveside services with military honors for Mr. John A. MacLeod will be held Monday, September 8, at 11am in the Hillcrest Park Cemetery on Parker Street in Springfield, MA.
