Mr. Norman A. Sanderson

HINSDALE- Norman A. Sanderson, 92, of Maple Street passed away on December 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. Born December 8, 1924 in Pittsfield, the son of James and Sophia May Beach Sanderson; he was a graduate of Dalton High School and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa as an Army Airforce Cadet. As a veteran, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He was a member of the Dalton American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A member of the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale, he served as sexton and caretaker for over 10 years. He was an over 50-year member and Past Master of the Globe Lodge AF & AM. He had 33 years of service with General Electric, as a Technical Marketing Technician with the GE Plastics Business Division. Norman was an avid trapper and spent the fall of each year in the swamps of Washington in quest of muskrat and mink. He also enjoyed woodworking and built his garage out of GE crate boards he purchased for $20 a load. He was an accomplished auto body repair technician. An avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots he was passionate in rooting against the NY Yankees and NY Giants. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Vivian G. Thurber, whom he married August 28, 1947; she passed away December 19, 2004. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters James Sanderson, Robert Sanderson, Elizabeth Benegas, Kathleen Drosehn and Laura Drosehn. Norman is survived by his children Dawn L. Frissell of Hinsdale, Gay K. Calo and her husband Joseph of Medfield, MA, Hope E. Burgess and her husband John J. Barrett of Lee, MA, Faith I. Scofield and James R. Sanderson of Lanesboro, Norman T. Sanderson of Pittsfield, sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. He also leaves behind his caregiver of over twenty years Cheryl Lyman and her family of Hinsdale. Norman’s family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Kirby, the staff of HospiceCare in the Berkshires, all his personal care attendants who took care of him for the last two and a half months and the staff’s at the Flynn, O’Laughlins and Stop & Shop Pharmacies for their care and support of our Dad over the years. FUNERAL NOTICE- Funeral services for Mr. Norman A. Sanderson will be held Saturday, December 17 at 11:30AM at the First Congregational Church of Hinsdale, with Rev. Jennifer Kimball, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale.
