Mrs. Phyllis J. Bennett

Mrs. Phyllis J Bennett, 82, of Pittsfield, MA passed away early Thanksgiving morning, 11/27/14 at the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, MA. Born in Scotia, NY, the daughter of Isabella and Aubrey Pearson, she attended Scotia and Schenectady, NY schools and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. After graduation, Phyllis moved to New York City to become a buyer for B. Altman & Co. In 1955, she married her high school sweetheart Robert Bennett in Schenectady, New York. There, she worked for the WRGB television network. With her husband, she moved to many occupation related locations including NY, VA, W.VA, Ohio, CA and MA. At all these locations, she was active in her church and volunteered for many community organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, managing hospital gift shops and in Pittsfield, Habitat for Humanity, and Pittsfield Beautiful. She went on to open her own fine linen store on North St. in Pittsfield, called "The Linen Closet." Phyllis and Bob raised three daughters and a son, and have eight grandchildren and two great grand children. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Phyllis enjoyed traveling with her husband to many international locations including an extended stay in Germany and Japan and has a special fondness for Kauai, Hawaii. She also enjoyed playing bridge, paddle tennis and golf with friends. She is survived by Robert Bennett, her loving husband of 59 years, as well as daughter, Deborah Bennett and Ken McCartney, with granddaughter's Amber and Ashley and great grandson's Bodie and Tyler; daughter, Bonnie and Patrick McArdle with grandson Miles; Son, Jeffrey and Renee Bennett, with Grandson's Devon and Hunter; daughter, Susan and Charles Stein with grandson’s Chad and Nate and granddaughter Lindsay; brother, Gary Bennett and Jane Crowley and sister-in-law, Dawn Bennett. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Thursday morning, Dec. 4, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, at 55 Fenn St, Pittsfield. Following the memorial service, the family will greet friends at the church. There will be no calling hours. There will be a private afternoon burial in Scotia, NY.
