Mr. Sebastiano "Busty" R. Giansiracusa

PITTSFIELD- Sebastiano “Busty” R. Giansiracusa, 97, of Sugar Hill in Dalton, passed away on Saturday, October 29, following a brief illness. Busty was born May 8, 1919 in Norfolk, CT the son of Sebastiano and Pupina D’Artalglia Giansiracusa; he attended public schools in Norfolk, CT. Busty served in World War II under General Omar Bradley and landed in the largest amphibious invasion in history when US and Allied Forces assaulted Normandy, located on the northern coast of France. He came ashore on Omaha Beach and participated in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He was a mechanic by trade and was employed at the former Brewer Brothers Garage on South Street in Pittsfield, Brewer Brothers held the Chrysler franchise in Pittsfield. Busty also worked at Crescent Creamery, Crescent Creamery’s distribution area included the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts and extended up and down the Rte. 7 corridor into nearby Vermont and Connecticut, and into nearby areas of New York state. Busty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsfield for over 60 years, where he could always be found serving as an usher and provided assistance to variety church tasks. Busty was also an usher at the Tanglewood Music Center, home of the Boston Pops in the summer months. He enjoyed working around his home gardening and splitting wood. He was the consummate people person and enjoyed making friends with those he met. He will be remembered affectionally for calling everyone Joe, in reference to the expression GI Joe. But you can bet he called the ladies by their first name. He is predeceased by his wives the former Marion Rhoades whom he married December 15, 1945 and Marguerite R. Renaud whom he married September 15, 1973. Busty is survived by his daughter Mary J. Jarvie and her husband Robert of Washington, MA, sons James A. Giansiracusa and his wife Alinda of Fallbrook, CA, Steven A. Giansiracusa of Pittsfield, MA, eight grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Busty’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs at Sugar Hill Assisted Living Facility, Craneville Place of Dalton and Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center, for the love and care they provided to him and his family. FUNERAL NOTICE- A memorial service for Mr. Sebastiano “Busty” R. Giansiracusa will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Sheila Sholes-Ross pastor, officiating. Burial will be private in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 11 from 3-6PM at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME on East St., Pittsfield.
