Mr. Thomas Brendan O'Brien

PITTSFIELD Thomas Brendan O'Brien, of Pittsfield, born July 14, 1959, passed from this life to his eternal rest on May 8, 2013. A son of the late John F. and Margaret M. McGroarty O'Brien; he was a loving and devoted husband to his best friend and wife, Suzette Belair O'Brien, whom he married on April 9, 1988, and father to his pride and joy, his son, Thomas A. O'Brien. Thom was a 1978 graduate of St. Joseph High School and attended Berkshire Community College. In his younger years, he was employed by Carr Hardware and City Savings Bank. He met Su while employed at MCLA (formerly North Adams State College) and was last employed by Lipton until his retirement in 2000 due to disability. Thom was an avid sports fan and a fanatic supporter of the Boston Red Sox and the New York Football Giants. He was active as a golfer and a candle pin bowler until injury forced him to sideline both of those sports. Until fairly recently, Thom enjoyed annual camping trips to Lake George with his family and Caribbean cruises. In addition to his wife and son, Thom is survived by his twin brother, Timothy A. O'Brien of North Adams and his children, Elizabeth, Morgan and Amanda; his sisters, Nancy Slade (Matthew) of Jamaica Plain, and their children, Michelle and Michael; Mary Fielding (Thomas) of Lenox and their children, Bailey, Annie and John and Margaret Lenski (Joel) of Dalton and their children, Justin, Jacob and Andrew and his brother John's children, Sean and Christopher (Allison). Thom is also survived by his father-in-law, Richard E. Belair, and his brothers-in-law, Douglas Belair (Susan) of Ijamsville, Md., and their children, Matthew (Laura) and Megan; Michael Belair (Jeanne) of Pittsfield and their son, Michael; and Richard Belair (Philomene) of Adams and their children, Jeffrey (Diana), Heather, Nicholas, Christopher and Richard. Thom is also survived by his aunts, Kathleen Demary, the matriarch of the O'Brien family, and Liz O'Brien, as well as his great-niece, great nephews, and his beloved cousins who were like siblings growing up. Thom was predeceased in 1992 by his brother, John F. O'Brien; by his parents, John F. O'Brien in 2000 and Margaret M. McGroarty O'Brien in 2007, and his mother-in-law, Beryl M. Annetts Belair in 2010. Thom's family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Andrew DiMaggio and his staff of the New England Pain Clinic for the exemplary and loving care they provided to him during his disability as well as to Dr. Michael Mortelitti and Dr. Harry Hartford. Thom's laughter, warm spirit and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He loved his Friday night card buddies you know who you are! BFN, BFF. AML, AML 224-7. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Thomas O'Brien will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 EAST STREET PITTSFIELD MA 01201, with Father Peter Naranjo II officiating. Calling hours will be Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Wellington Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing are requested to make a donation in Thom's memory to the Berkshire Humane Society through Wellington Funeral Home which in charge of arrangements.
