Nugent 75, of Summit Hill Road passed away peacefully with family by his side at Berkshire Medical Center October 27, 2014. The son of Alice Williams Nugent and Albert Nugent, Bill was born in Westfield, Massachusetts on November 15, 1938. He attended Smith Vocational School in Northampton and enlisted in the US Navy November 17, 1955 and was honorably discharged October 13, 1959. He also attended Berkshire Community College. Bill married the love of his life the former Heidi A. Hansen, September 8, 1979. Their small farm was home to a wide variety of animals through the years. He loved going to farm auctions and whenever possible he would go to the Tuesday auction in Whately, MA. Over the years many people brought their children to visit the farm and Bill inspired several to create their own little farms. He worked for several years for the Town of Washington DPW and also served on the town’s park committee. Bill drove school buses for over twenty years and enjoyed watching young people grow through the years. He could be in a store or restaurant and have people come up to him and say “Do you remember me? You were my bus driver;” and they would tell him what was happening in their lives. Bill leaves his wife Heidi, children Joanne Roe of Canandaigua, NY, William Nugent of Chesterfield, and Brenda Childs of Chesterfield, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by six siblings; Albert Nugent & Pat of Worthington, Ernest Nugent & Deen of Worthington, Charles Nugent & Sherry of Chesterfield, Jane Witter & Clarence of Worthington, Dorothy Long of Milton, FL and Susan Jalbert of Dalton. He was predeceased by two sisters Alice Wright and Claira Shea. We will cherish memories of his wonderful sense of humor and his generosity of love. FUNERAL NOTICE- A memorial service for Bill H. Nugent will be held Saturday at 2PM at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Pittsfield with Rev. Cricket Cooper, pastor officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Washington Scholarship fund as Bill wanted to continue to help young people with their educational path or to St. Stephen’s Table in care of BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
