Mr. Donald G. Crocker

Our Dad, Papa and Great Papa, Mr. Donald G. Crocker, of Pittsﬁeld, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, just a few months before celebrating his 101st birthday. Born in Pittsﬁeld, MA, on September 1, 1924, son of the late George and Alice Boyer Crocker, he graduated from Pittsﬁeld High School with the class of 1942. Donald enlisted in the United States Army in May,1943, where he proudly served his country as a surgical technician at the 112th hospital in Devon, England. After the end of the war in Europe, he was about to be sent to the Paciﬁc Theater when that war also ended. He received his honorable discharge in September 1945. It was during his time in England, that he met the love of his life, Jean Patricia Donabie of Torquay, England. Jean came to the United States in 1946. They married on October 26, 1946, and lived in Pittsﬁeld until 1956 when they relocated to New Jersey. They returned to Pittsﬁeld in 1983. For the majority of his career, Donald was employed by Berkshire Street Railway as a bus driver in the early 1950’s, Sayre & Fisher Brick Company in Sayreville, NJ and Ford Motor Company in Edison, New Jersey where he worked in their accounting department. It was from there that he retired after 18 years of dedicated service. Upon his return to Pittsﬁeld, Don was a teller at Berkshire County Savings Bank on North Street for 10 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed listening to music, especially the Big Bands of the 1940’s. He also loved watching baseball, and was a loyal fan of the New York Mets. Additionally, Don enjoyed reading, especially about World War II history. Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 71 years, Jean, who passed away in 2017. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Richard, Norman, and Raymond Crocker. Donald is survived by his children, Jeﬀrey (and Gina) Crocker of Pittsﬁeld; Bryan (and Denise) Crocker of East Brunswick, NJ; and Andrea (and David) Kase of Spotswood, NJ. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Danielle Cox, Erik Kase, Erin Schiavino, Lauren Kolmer, Christopher Crocker and Evan Crocker, as well as his 8 great grandchildren: Matthew, Meghan, Amy, Owen, Carson, Lily, Brynn and Scott. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donald’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to each staﬀ member at Mt. Greylock Nursing Facility for their kind, compassionate care. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Donald G. Crocker will be Sunday, June 29, 2025, at 1pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsﬁeld, MA 01201. There will be an hour of visitation at the funeral home directly prior to the service, from 12noon to 1pm. In lieu of ﬂowers, donations in Don’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as Don would always say, “I need to help the kids.”
