Mrs. Doris F. Green

Doris Fleming Green, of Dalton, passed away at Mt Greylock Extended Care on March 30, 2023. Born in Franklin, MA on May 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Grace Fleming. Doris attended public schools in Franklin. She received her nurse’s training at Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro, MA. She graduated as a registered nurse. Doris married Clifton P. Green on October 12, 1946. He predeceased her on April 5, 1997. Doris was predeceased by her sister Bernice Babcock and her brothers Stanley Fleming, Harold Fleming, and Lloyd Fleming. Also, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Philip Cummings. Doris is survived by her children Robert (Carol) Green, Donald (Linda) Green, Richard (Sheryl) Green, Marilyn Goldfarb, Beverly (Philip) Cummings, and James (Michelle) Green; her fourteen grandchildren: Shelley (Michael) Hall, Kelley Green, Sherry (the late David) Zerbato, Michelle (Bernie) Merlet, Heidi Zeitler, Margaret (Erick) Lachcik, Sara Goldfarb, Jacob Goldfarb, Adam Goldfarb, Philip Cummings II, William (Renee) Cummings, Marilyn Thomas, Paul Cummings, Benjamin (Nicole) Cummings; and her fifteen great grandchildren Madison Hall; Zachary and Camden Zerbato; Joshua and Kayla Snyder; Cody Roach; Erick Lachcik Jr; Philip III, Shyanne, Payton, Conner, Evan, Madyson, and Makenzie Cummings; and Kristina Warmly. There are many nieces and nephews. Doris was a member of First Baptist Church, participating in the Ruth Danford Chapter, and adult Bible study. Initially in marriage, Doris was a housewife. After her children were a bit older, she took refresher courses at St Luke’s Hospital and resumed her nursing career. Starting in St. Luke’s Hospital, she transferred to Pittsfield General Hospital, now Berkshire Medical Center, working in both ICU and CCU. At the age of seventy, she retired from nursing. Doris was a happy soul. Often when you came into her house you would hear her singing a happy song. She enjoyed baking cookies and pies, tending her flower gardens, scrabble, cross word and jigsaw puzzles, and long walks. She had a love for Ocean Park, Maine; where the family often vacationed. Doris enjoyed participating in the trips sponsored by Dalton Senior Center and Gene Dellea. After Clifton passed, she started traveling with her dear friend Betty Paperio. They expanded their travels to include international tours and cruises. Doris was quick witted, made friends easily, and everyone loved her. She will be greatly missed. Funeral Notice: As Doris requested, her funeral service and burial will be private.
