Mrs. Dorothy M. Frederick

Mrs. Dorothy M. Frederick, of Dalton, passed away so peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter Christine for the past 3 years on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, surrounded by Christine and several of her grandchildren. Affectionately known as Mom and Nana, she was born on April 1, 1927, and would probably be unhappy I just shared her age, but she lived a healthy 96 years until very recently. Mom loved spending time with her family, shopping, tending to her flowers and feeding and watching the birds. She was always a part of pumpkin picking every fall and our annual holiday trip to Yankee Candle along with so many family gatherings. She went camping up until the age of 95 and we were pretty sure she was the oldest camper there. Every August she would go camping with Christine and her family and enjoyed staying in a cabin, which she referred to as “the Ritz” and would put up lights and decorations and each morning would host breakfast. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tell and hear a good joke. She was an amazing cook and baker, and her Chocolate Cake and Polenta will be missed. Mom/Nana always made sure she was at the window waving goodbye when you left. Our family gatherings will never be the same, but we are thankful for all the fun memories (and voicemails)! Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband Everett C. Frederick who passed away on March 14, 1965, and her son-in-law Steven Polansky, who died on October 19, 2019. She is survived by her son Donald Frederick of Victor, NY and his 3 children Ilona, Amanda and Alisha. Daughter Diane Polansky of Milford, CT and her children Rachael and Lauren Polansky. Daughter Christine Frederick, and her children Alyssa (Van Fleet) Gallagher and husband Brandon and their 2 children Everett and Eliot of Pittsfield, MA. Kevin Van Fleet and wife Jayna of Hinsdale, MA and their daughter Wren. Dustin Van Fleet of Medford, MA and Jeffrey Van Fleet of Dalton, MA Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy M. Frederick will be Monday, July 24, 2023, at 12 noon at the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home in Dalton, 525 Main Street, Dalton MA. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in West Stockbridge. There will be an hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service, from 11 am to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, and due to her love of birds, donations in her memory can be made to the Mass Audubon Society in care of the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home.
