Mr. Francis j. "Frank" Roy

Francis J. “Frank” Roy, 80, passed away peacefully on Wed. March 28, 2012 at home following a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Lowell, February 24, 1932, the son of Joseph A. and Clara Bergeron Roy, he attended the local schools there. He served in the US Air force with the Strategic Air Command from 1952 until his discharge as a SSGT in 1956. Following his discharge, he came to this area and was employed as a Chef at the former Rossi Restaurant in Lee until 1966. He then went to work at Rising Paper serving in different capacities throughout the mill. His most recent position was as a Lab Technician where he worked closely with the Town of Great Barrington Waste Water Treatment Plant on the discharge from the mill. He retired in 1995. He was a former longtime member of the GEAA, the Wyantenuck Country Club, and the East Side Cafe Pitch League. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and spending time with his family. He was an avid golfer participating in many golf tournaments throughout the years and was a Fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Frank was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be remembered as a kind and caring man by all that knew him. He and his wife, the former Bernice Daoust, were married July 18, 1974 in Pittsfield. Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Gregory A. Yon and his wife, Pittsfield Ward 1 City Councilor Christine Yon, David L. Yon and his wife School Committee Secratary Katherine Yon, and Geoffrey M. Roy and his wife Carla Roy all of Pittsfield, his daughter Denice M. Yon of Pittsfield, nine grandchildren, Lindsey Reardon and her husband Sean, Nicole Yon and her fiancé, Lee Nagata, Joseph Yon, Erin Yon and her fiancé, John Lourie, Ashlee MacDonald and her husband Brian, Ryan Yon, Carly Yon and Lucas and Derek Roy, 8 great grandchildren, his brother Norman Roy and his wife Theresa of Housatonic, his sister, Jean Burnham and her husband Larry of Georgia, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE The funeral for Francis J. “Frank” Roy will be held on Saturday, March 31st at 8:00 AM from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00AM at St. Charles Church celebrated by Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
