Mrs. Gloria A. Hyland

Mrs. Gloria A. Hyland, 82, of Narragansett Ave., Lanesborough, Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born in Pittsfield on November 21, 1932 the daughter of Earl and Mable Shaw Kirchner she attended St. Joseph High School. Mrs. Hyland worked as a Caregiver for Independent Home Care for five years until her retirement in 1991. She had previously worked at the First National and Adams Supermarkets and also for the Pittsfield Public Schools. Gloria was an active member of the former St. Mary the Moring Star Church where she had also taught catechism. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, especially during the holidays and on Pontoosuc Lake. Mrs. Hyland is survived by her husband, John Hyland, whom she married on May 2, 1962 in New Lebanon, NY. She is also survived by her five children, Edward Hyland and his wife Karen, Dawn Face and her husband Paul, Michelle Taikowski and her husband Richard, Chris Chojnowski and his wife Jeanie and Linda Daly; a sister, Beverly Slater; two brothers, Henry Kirchener and David Kirchener; 12 grandchildren, Kailey and Meghan Face, Kira Steele, Joseph Taikowski, Jennifer and Ryan Chojnowski, Sean Rilla, Matthew, Toby, and James Amuso, Carrie Contini and Rebekah Saville; 10 great grandchildren, Devon Taikowski, Sophie and Caleb Contini and Emily, Jacob, Xander, Beatrice, Julie Anne, Ava, Austin and Mason Amuso. She was predeceased by a son, Baby John and 7 siblings, Nick, Larry, Donnie, Timmy, Peggy and Sherry Kirchener and Rosemary Herlihey. She also leaves her many nieces and nephews. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria A. Hyland will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 8 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, March 20, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berkshire Hematology Oncology, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
