Mr. Harry C. McGinnis

Mr. Harry C. McGinnis, Jr., 79, of Pittsfield, passed away on Saturday morning, February 25, 2017 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on December 19, 1937 the son of Harry C. and Dorothy Kirchner McGinnis, he was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. McGinnis served in the Army National Guard, 104th Infantry, from 1955 to 1967. Harry worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Pittsfield for 32 years. He had also worked for Donovan Construction for 15 years as well as many other construction companies. Harry always enjoyed working at the family popcorn wagon on North Street. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Harry had a passion for cars and heavy equipment and had earned the nickname “Hubcap Harry” or “Highway Harry” among his friends. Harry was a model train enthusiast. He had a large H.O. scale layout at his home and he was particularly fond of the D& H and the New Haven train companies. Mr. McGinnis is survived by his wife, the former Linda M. Latakas, whom he married on December 24, 1989. He also leaves his daughter, Kathleen M. Mowe, a son, Kevin McGinnis and his wife Mary and a step-daughter, Dawn Burdick; a brother, Daniel McGinnis and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Theresa Tooley and a brother-in-law, Mark E. Latakas; step-grandchildren, Andrew Burdick, Shane Burdick and John Moynahan. Harry also leaves his beloved cats, Mandy and Timmy. Besides his parents, Harry was predeceased by his youngest brother, Frederick McGinnis and a step-brother Frank M. Latakas. Harry’s family would like to thank the staff of the 5th floor at BMC, especially Dr. Ram, Melissa, Kim and Matt, for their kindness and exceptional care. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Harry C. McGinnis, Jr. will be Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at 6 p.m. at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with the Rev. David Aufiero, Administrator of St. Mark’s Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday evening, prior to the service, from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or the United Cerebral Palsy of Berkshire County, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in his memory.
