Mr. Justin L. Davis

Justin L. Davis, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, proud veteran, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on March 11, 1932, in Brooklyn to Robert L. Davis and Elizabeth Davis, Justin was raised in Elyria, where he developed the discipline, faith, and strong moral foundation that would guide him throughout his life. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame for two years before enlisting in the United States Air Force. Serving as a Navigator, he attained the rank of Lieutenant — a role that reflected his intelligence, focus, and calm under pressure. Following his military service, Justin graduated from Georgetown University, where he met the love of his life, Patricia Cleary. They were married in 1958 and soon moved to California, where he continued his education at the University of San Francisco and where they began raising their family. After teaching for several years in the San Diego parochial school system, the family moved in 1967 to Pittsfield, where Justin devoted 30 years to teaching mathematics at Pittsfield High School and Taconic High School until his retirement in 1997. He was known as a disciplined and steady educator who cared deeply about his students’ success. Beyond his professional life, Justin embraced the simple pleasures that brought him joy. He enjoyed playing tennis, hiking the trails of New England, slurping fresh oysters with enthusiasm, getting lost in a good book, and savoring the occasional well-made martini. These passions reflected his love of the outdoors, good company, and thoughtful conversation. He was preceded in life and death by his cherished wife, Patricia (Cleary) Davis, who passed away in 2012 and his beloved sister, Mary Walsh of New Mexico. Justin leaves behind his loving children and their spouses: Gerard L. Davis and Kelly of Grapevine, Texas; Michael E. Davis and Rosie of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Timothy R. Davis and Kathy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Andrew M. Davis and Katie of Seattle, Washington; Monica A. McCauley and Richard of Harwich, Massachusetts; Irene Davis and Wendi of Seattle, Washington; and Katherine McGovern and Kevin. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. Justin’s life was defined by service — to his country, to his students, and most especially to his family. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the example he set, and the generations who carry his spirit forward. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Justin will be Friday, April 10, 2026, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery.
