Mr. Lawrence F. Buffi Jr.

Mr. Lawrence F. Buffi Jr., 76, of 59 Meadow Dr., Dalton, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015 at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on September 5, 1938 the son of Lawrence and Carmen Pignone Buffi he was a 1957 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Mr. Buffi was an MP in the US Army; entering the service in May of 1958 and receiving his honorable discharge in 1961. He was a communicant of St. Charles Church. Larry was an avid sports fan, following all New England professional sports teams. He was a longtime coach of the Pittsfield Pop Warner Football program. Mr. Buffi worked for Kelly-Dietrich Wholesale Beverage Distributors for 15 years and later in the Maintenance Department at Hillcrest Educational Center, retiring in 2006. Larry was a loving family man, cherishing his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many foster children. He and his wife, Christine, were honored to receive the Foster Parents of the Year Award in 1983, which was presented by Governor Michael S. Dukakis. He is survived by his wife, the former Christine Doyle, whom he married in October of 1968 in Pittsfield. He is also survived by his eight children, Frank Buffi, Matthew Buffi, Courtney Buffi and Christina Buffi all of Dalton, Eileen Vickery of Pittsfield, Julie Stowers of TN, Kim Johns and her husband Tony of Pittsfield and Cara Doty of Schenectady, NY; grandchildren, Kari Schulz of Phoenix, AZ, Joseph Terra also of Phoenix, AZ, Kristin Cantu of Pittsfield, Joshua Johns, Nicole Johns and Brandon Johns all of Pittsfield, Andrew Stowers and Tyler Stowers both of TN, Briane Buffi, Dominique Doty and Anthony Doty of Schenectady, NY and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves an Aunt, Nancy Frangipane and his sister in laws, Mary Lou Murphy and Beverly Doyle He was predeceased by a daughter, Amanda Buffi, who passed away on March 9, 2011, a grandson, Brett Cantu in 1989 and a brother in law, Gerald S. Doyle Sr. in August of 1998. Larry’s family would like to thank the staff at renal dialysis at BMC for taking such good care of him during his prolonged illness. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence F. Buffi will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor and Deacon Robert Esposito. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to Berkshire County ARC care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.
