Mr. Lewis E. McNamee Jr.

Lewis E. McNamee Jr. of Claverack, NY passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018 after a short illness. He was 86 years old. “Lew”, as he was better known as, was born on April 12, 1932 to Lewis E. McNamee Sr. and his wife Ruth (Jackman) McNamee of Hudson, NY. He attended St. Mary’s Academy in Hudson, NY and later graduated from Christians Brothers Academy in Albany, NY. He was married to his beloved wife, Barbara Ann (George) McNamee for 62 years. Sadly, Barbara passed away on October 19, 2018. Lew proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a Private First Class with the United Sates Air Force with the 49th Squadron from the Francis E Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming. Lew returned to Hudson & became a car salesman before opening McNamee Trailer Sales in Claverack. He has been a Licensed Real Estate Agent since 1958 and later a Real Estate Broker. He and his wife Barbara ran McNamee Realty. Lew, his wife and their sons owned and operated McNamee Outdoor Outfitters in Claverack, NY for many years. He remained active in many civic organizations. Lew was a trustee with the Greenport/Stottville VFW Post 3220, a member of The Hudson Fish & Game Club, the Philmont Rod & Gun club, a past representative to the Columbia County Sportsmen Federation, a Life member with the NRA & the Ruffed Grouse Society of North America, and a former volunteer fireman with A B Shaw Fire Co. All who knew Lew remember and appreciate him for his sense of humor, his quick wit and his willingness to help others in need. He had many friends and he will be greatly missed. Lew was an avid hunter, fisherman, animal lover and all-around outdoorsman. He grew up spending summers on Queechy Lake in Canaan, NY and it was his favorite place in the world to spend time. Lew loved spending time with his family and loved all of them unconditionally. He is survived by his son Jimmy (Kathy) McNamee of Churchtown, NY, his daughter Cindy (Andy) Wright of Rock Hill, SC, his son Timmy (Susan) McNamee of Claverack, NY, his daughter Bridget Gallagher of Naples, Fl, his son Peter McNamee of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, his grandchildren James McNamee, Tucker McNamee, Tishama Wright, Chelsie Wright, Erin Wright, Lewis McNamee IV, Devon McNamee and his great grandchildren Noah, Maya & Gavin. Lew is also survived by his sister Mary Lou Groll of Hudson, NY, several nieces, nephews and cousins. All of whom will miss him dearly. Funeral Notice: Please join the family in a celebration of Lew & Barbara’s lives this Friday, May 11, 2018 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the A. B. Shaw Firehouse, 67 Route 23 in Claverack, NY.
