Mrs. M. Martha Barry

M. Martha Barry, formerly of Dan Ave, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Mount Carmel Care Center, Lenox. Born in Pittsfield, March 29, 1924, daughter of the late Leo J. Quinlan and Madeline C. McMahon Quinlan, she was educated at the schools of St. Joseph Parish, graduating from St. Joseph High School in 1941. She graduated from Our Lady of the Elms College, Chicopee in 1945. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. A homemaker, she and her husband raised their children in Gt. Barrington, where she was an active member of St. Peter’s Church and a golf and pool member of Wyantenuck Country Club. She was a CCD teacher and Girl Scout leader. Moving back to Pittsfield in 1973, Mrs. Barry was a communicant and volunteer for many activities of the former St. Teresa Church for over 30 years. She also worked in the family business, the former J. F. Kahl, Co., Jewelers. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and visiting with her family and friends. Martha was predeceased by husband of 54 years, Joseph J. Barry, Jr., who passed away on May 10, 2004. Mrs. Barry leaves two daughters, Susan B. Seseske (Alex) of Pittsfield and Marti M. Breau of Norton, MA; two sons, John R. Barry (Deborah) of Houston, TX and Brian J. Barry of Westford, MA; nine grandchildren, Scott (Megan), Daniel (Jessica), and Jeffrey Seseske; Emma, Christian, and Brendan Breau; and Patrick, Conor, and Ryan Barry; seven great-grandchildren, Mary, Veronica, Zelie, Dominic, Josephine, Samantha, and James; a brother, David A. Quinlan of Lenox; and two sisters, Therese F. Nesbit of Lenox and Sr. Constance M. Quinlan, SSJ of Holyoke; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John L. Quinlan, her grandson, Aaron J. Breau, and her sisters-in-law, Barbara Quinlan and Maureen Quinlan. The family would like to thank the entire staffs of Mount Carmel Care Center and Melbourne Place for their loving and respectful care of Mom. FUNERAL NOTICE Funeral services for Mrs. M. Martha Barry will be Wednesday, October 12, 2022, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1pm at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. An hour of visitation at the church will be held prior to the service, from 12 noon to 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Barry’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church of Pittsfield or to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
