Mrs. Marguerite B. Bailey

Mrs. Marguerite Bailey, of Dalton, passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021, just days after celebrating her 90th birthday. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on June 10, 1931, the daughter of the late William and Bessie Bonney Lyman, she graduated from the former Dalton High School with the class of 1949. Before becoming a mother, Marguerite worked for the former Schaeffer Eaton Paper Mill, where she met her husband, the late Gordon Bailey. Marguerite’s family was of utmost importance to her, and she strove to see that each of their needs were met with nothing but love and care. After raising her children at home, upon re-entering the workforce, Marguerite worked primarily in the food service industry until her retirement. Among many things, Marguerite loved being outdoors. She especially enjoyed nature’s beauty while going for walks and when traveling. While Marguerite appreciated all of God’s creatures, both great and small, she was particularly fond of cats. Marguerite was predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Gordon P. Bailey, whom she married on March 25, 1961. Gordon passed away on September 24, 2019. Marguerite is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Bailey (Jennifer) of Windsor, MA, Thomas Bailey of Pittsfield MA, and Brian Bailey (Catherine Fennelly) of Pittsfield, MA. She leaves behind her three grandchildren, Jonathan, Phoebe, and Phineas, her brother-in-law, Philip Bukowski, as well as her nieces, nephews and many cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Marguerite was predeceased by her two brothers, William F. Lyman and Donald F. Lyman. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Joyce Shook and Beverly Bailey and her brother-in-law, Edward Shook. Marguerite’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Craneville Place for their outstanding kindness and loving care throughout these difficult times. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Marguerite B. Bailey will be Friday, June 18, 2021, at 12 noon at the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home, 525 Main Street, Dalton MA 01226, with the Rev. Henry Pascual, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be an hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home, 525 Main Street, Dalton, MA 01226, in her memory. Donations CANNOT be made online, but may be made through the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home.
