Mrs. Mary A. Coughlan

Mrs. Mary A. Coughlan of 37 Jayne Ave passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at home surrounded by and cared for by her devoted children. Born in Pittsfield MA, May 19, 1932 the daughter of Peter and Stella LaPorta Aulisi. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in June 1950. After High School, Mary served in the Air Force at Pope Air Force Base, Ft Bragg in North Carolina as an Airman 1st Class and that is where she met her husband, Paul. Mary was predeceased by her husband Paul, who died on January 7th, 2015. The two were married on December 26, 1953 in Mount Carmel Church. Mary attended St. Joseph’s Church and was a longtime member of St. Charles Church where she served as a CCD teacher and Eucharistic Minister. Mary worked at Rosenfeld’s with her father and sister Eleanor, Eaton Paper Corp, and later retired from the Pittsfield Public School system on March 16, 1998 after serving for 17 years. Mary enjoyed drawing, sewing, gardening, and cooking and made her daughter Deborah’s wedding dress. She could always be found working in her yard or preparing a meal or baking for when her children or grandchildren would stop by. She is survived by her five children, Deborah Deloye and her husband Stephen, Paul T Coughlan, James Coughlan and his wife Jeanne, Maureen Coughlan and her sweetheart Dennis and Christine “C.C.” Burke and her husband Daniel; 11 grandchildren, Jason and Katherine “K.C.” Deloye, Cody, Molly and Jameson Coughlan, Zachary Burke, Marti-Jo and Lukus Van Bramer, Abigail Cole and Hayden and Nolan Burke; six great grandchildren, Aliyah, Maverick, Ryden, Laina, Isaac and Greyson. She also leaves two sisters, Lucy Auilsi and Lena Rische both of Pittsfield along with 31 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Mary Jo Coughlan in 1964. She was also predeceased by her four sisters, Antoinette Monroe, Ann Carino, Rose Gennari and Eleanor Coughlin. The family of Mary Coughlan would like to thank HospiceCare in the Berkshires for their extraordinary care and compassion as well as to thank Pastor Steven Montesanti from Sacred Heart who provided anointing of the sick which was “the most beautiful ceremony”, in Mary’s own words. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Mary A. Coughlan will be Thursday, August 24, 2023, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 4pm to 6pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
