Mrs. Mary Lou Decker

Mary Lou Powers Decker, of Pittsfield, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, just months after celebrating her 90th birthday. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on September 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Edward and Mae Carey Powers, she graduated from Pittsfield High School. Mary Lou’s family was always of utmost importance to her. She loved spending time by their side, seeing that each of their needs was met with love and support. Mary Lou was proud of her work at General Electric, England Brothers, and local banks, but she was especially gratified by her twenty-years as a HospiceCare in the Berkshires volunteer. She enjoyed playing her organ, spending holidays with family, and travelling with Dufour Tours. In addition to her deep and abiding faith and friendships, a special place in her heart was reserved for playing Rummy and sharing in the annual Christmas Yankee Swap with family. Mary Lou was very active in the community. She was a member of the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center, as well as the OTC Falcetti Music program, the Ralph Froio Senior Center, and Saint Charles parish. Mary Lou was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Ralph A. Decker, whom she married on October 2, 1954. Ralph passed away in November of 2017. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Edward, Richard, James, and her sister Jane Huber. Mary Lou is survived by her children, Dr. Donna Decker (John Sharp), Glen Decker (Karen), Juliann Decker (Christopher DePierro), and Maribeth Decker (Michael Daoust). She leaves behind her grandchildren, all of whom she adored: Caitlin Francis, Alyssa Catlin, Courtney Decker, Kellan Reck, Cory Decker, Brendan Daoust, Carly Decker, and Bridget Daoust. She is also survived by her dear great grandchildren, Austin Shepard-Decker, Colton Coniglio, Samantha, Sadie, and William Catlin, Camden and Riley Francis, Cayden and Emma DePierro, and Hudson Perrut. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mary Lou Decker will be Friday, December 1, 2023, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Lou’s memory can be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Inc. or Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home.
