Mr. Raymond O. MacWhinnie

Mr. Raymond O. MacWhinnie, 83, of 272 Dalton Division Rd., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield, on June 23, 1930, the son of the late David and Lillian Boedeker MacWhinnie, he attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Continuing his education, he attended the former Berkshire Business College for two years. Ray was a self-employed accountant for many years. He retired in 2010. Previously, he was the owner of the former Lanesborough Machine Shop, and he had also worked at O.W. Landergren and for Associated Transport. He was a long time member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 272, The Dandelion Eaters Club in which he was awarded Dandelion Eater of the Year in 1978, and Past Treasurer of the Pittsfield Little League. Ray enjoyed puttering around the garden, bird watching, traveling, visiting the beach, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and his wife, the former Patricia Clark were married December 31, 1952. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Raymond “Butch” MacWhinnie and his wife Janet of E. Smithfield, PA and Thomas MacWhinnie of Enfield, CT, two daughters Deborah Sorensen and her husband Carl, and Karen Roberts all of Pittsfield, two sisters, Barbara Wall of San Mateo, CA and Joan Matson of Ocala, FL, three brothers, Roderick MacWhinnie and his wife Joyce of Pittsfield, Ronald MacWhinnie and his wife Sherida of Bentley Creek, PA, and Daniel MacWhinnie and his wife Linda of Lanesborough, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth MacWhinnie who died August 11, 1973, a daughter, Linda A. Yon-Kudlate who died April 22, 2013, and a brother, Robert MacWhinnie who died in 1982. FUNERAL NOTICE Raymond O. MacWhinnie, 83, died on August 7, 2013. The funeral will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10:00AM at the DWYER FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Dr. Ann J. Broomell, Interim Rector at St. Stephens Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4:00 until 6:00PM at the funeral home.
