Mr. Richard N. Monteleone

Mr. Richard N. Monteleone, 83 of 165 Seaport Blvd., Cape Canaveral, FL., formerly of 17 Bay State Road, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield on February 12, 1931, the son of the late Nicholas J. Monteleone and Josephine M. “Fresia” Monteleone., he was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Upon graduating he worked at Carr Hardware and later he became the owner and operator of Dick’s Market on the corner of Linden and Onota Streets. He later proceeded to work at his lifetime passion as a professional carpenter for George Emerson for over 30 years, rising to the rank of foreman. His most memorable accomplishments as a carpenter include building the high rise dorms at Umass Amherst, additions to BMC, as well as building his family’s home in Dalton, Ma. His passions in life were traveling; taking cruises, going to Europe, as well as going cross country in the United States. His love for Italy was shared with his son Tom, and skiing in the Swiss Alps with his son Jeffery. He enjoyed golfing on the weekends with his sons Mike and Rick. He was so proud of his flower and vegetable gardens. He had enthusiasm for dancing with his loving wife, square dancing, bowling, and playing cards with his friends and family. He was very involved in church life as a Eucharistic minister both at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Savors, Catholic Church in Cape Canaveral, FL. He was a very dedicated and loving father to all eight of his children, his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Above and beyond he adored and loved his wife Mary whom he was married to for almost 60 years. Richard is predeceased by his loving wife, the former Mary A. Palmer. He is survived by his eight children, Ann Marie Adams and her husband Thomas of Pittsfield, Michael Monteleone and his wife Donna of Raleigh, N C, Jeffery Monteleone and Christina Boyer of Monrovia, CA, Thomas Monteleone and his life partner Daniel Barnat of Waltham, MA, Denise Wiedeman of Cape Canaveral, FL, Richard Monteleone and his wife Kathy of Rincon, GA, Brenda Ossinger and her husband Mark of Norfok, Ma, and Michelle Monteleone-Either and her husband Gary of Pittsfield; a sister, Lois Ann Lutz of Yalint, MI, his aunt, Marion Fresia of Clearwater, FL; His sisters in law, Joan Monteleone and Florence Tarbell both of Pittsfield, twenty two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert A. Monteleone. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Richard N. Monteleone will be Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00A.M. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Peter Naranjo, Parochial Vicar, officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday April 27, 2014 from 3PM to 6PM. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.
