Mr. Robert D. Barry

Robert Dustin Barry, was born May 3,1949 in North Adams, MA to Bartholomew and Barbara Lane Barry. He graduated from East Longmeadow High School, then the University of Vermont, where he majored in political science and met the love of his life, Mary Theresa McLaughlin. While attending UVM, Bob “Raz” enlisted in the Vermont National Guard, serving 6 years as a medic. Bob and Mary couldn’t wait to start a loving family of their own. They married in July of 1972 and soon after welcomed their first of five children, Colleen, into their family. They spent their first four years together in Burlington, Vermont welcoming their second child, Brennan. They moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1976 where they would continue to grow their family, adding three more children to the clan, Erin, Michaeleen and Deirdre. Bob applied his Army medical training throughout his various positions as a nurse and medical equipment salesman for many years. He later worked for Hillcrest Educational Centers in Pittsfield where he met his lifelong friend, Patrick Carnevale. This friendship would extend through their many years of service together at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. Bob retired from MEMA in June of 2023 after serving over 18 years with the agency. He treasured the relationships he made through his time there. He had a passion for fishing, golf, playing any chance he had, and was a loyal Red Sox and Patriots fan. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Theresa McLaughlin, his five adult children, Colleen, and her husband Gary Soldato, Brennan, and his wife Kathleen Barry, Erin, and her husband, Kalin Reardon, Michaeleen, and her boyfriend Patrick Tarjick, and Deirdre. He was so proud of his 8 grandchildren, Eileen, Joseph (Joe), Keegan, Patricia (Tricia), McKenna, Billy, Jack, and Nolan. Bob will also be missed by his faithful dog, Fenway. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Bartholomew and Barbara Barry, and his older brother, William (Bill) Barry. He is survived by his younger sister, Kathleen and younger brothers, Dan and John. Bob will be remembered for his kindness, compassion and love for his family and friends. His thoughtful conversation and sense of humor will be missed by so many. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Robert Dustin Barry will be Saturday, March 23, 2024, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1 pm at Sacred Heart Church, 191 Elm Street, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. At this time, there will be no burial. Calling hours will be directly prior to the service, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home in Pittsfield, 220 East Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.
