Miss Roberta E. Young

DALTON - Miss Roberta E. Young, 91, of Oak Street, died peacefully at Berkshire Medical Center on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, following a short illness.She was born on May 22, 1925, in Topsham, Maine, the daughter of Rev. Andrew and Claramae (Harvey) Young. She was a 1943 graduate of Bridgton Academy in North Bridgton, Maine. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa in the class of 1947 from Colby College, Waterville, Maine, she was hired to work in Design Engineering at the Power Transformer Division of General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, retiring in 1986 after 38 years of service. She was a member of the GE Pensioners and Quarter Century Club of Berkshire County.Miss Young was an avid golfer and member of the Wahconah Country Club since 1960, earning the status of lifetime member. She was also in a women's bowling league at Ken's Bowl for more than 20 years. The group called themselves the "Calendar Girls" and has supported each other through thick and thin over the years.Miss Young has been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts since moving to the Berkshires in 1947.She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Women, serving most recently as treasurer. She was a member of the Naomi Circle, a business women's group that met monthly for fellowship and service. She loved her church family and willingly served on many church committees, especially those that supported mission work in the community.She was regularly seen in the kitchen for Tuesday's Harvest Table, as well as at the spring luncheons hosted by the church.Survivors include nephews Maynard Andrew Young and his wife Suzanne of Hebron, New Hampshire, and Scott Alan Young and his wife Debra of Derry, New Hampshire. She also leaves grand-nieces Stephanie Young and Michelle LaBonte. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Louise Young of Charleston, Maine, and by her brother Andrew Harvey Young of Lynn, Massachusetts.SERVICES: A service celebrating the life of Roberta Young who passed away on January 18, 2017, will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 55 Fenn Street, Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with Rev. Ralph Howe officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the BARTLETT WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. Burial will be with her family in the Village Cemetery in Harrison, Maine in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in Miss Young's memory may be made to First United Methodist Church Mission Fund, 55 Fenn Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
