Mr. Wayne J. Ciepiela

Mr. Wayne J. Ciepiela, 72, of Pittsfield, passed away at his home on Friday, March 10, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on September 23, 1950, the son of the late Stephen and Cecilia Wring Ciepiela, he graduated from Pittsfield High School, where he was a standout athlete in football. He was the recipient of the Spec O’Boyle award in 1967, the award which goes to the outstanding player of the annual city championship between Pittsfield High School and St. Joseph High School He was inducted into the Berkshire County Football Hall of Fame in 1970. For the majority of his career, Wayne worked as a machinist at Marland Mold. Later, he was employed by Starbase Technologies. It was there he dedicated several years until his retirement in 2016. Among many things, he enjoyed golf, coaching softball, vacations in Myrtle Beach, and spending time with family and friends. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, the former Christine Dean, whom he married on May 5, 1973. He leaves behind his children, Paula Ciepiela, and Leslie Ciepiela- Branco and son-in-law Joe, as well as his siblings, Doreen Craver, Steve Ciepiela (Gail), Cindy Johnson (Bill). Wayne is survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Ciepiela, Marge Ciepiela, Julia LeClair, and his brothers-in-law, Robert Dean, Jr., and James Norton. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews who he loved and adored. Besides his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his brothers, Bob Ciepiela, Bill Ciepiela and sisters, Joan Barcher (Larry), Shirley Caccamo, and Barbara Felcher, as well as his sister-in-law, Barbara Norton and brother-in-law, Lewis Craver. He was also predeceased by his niece Jacqueline Kennedy and his nephews Jay Norton and Glenn Barcher. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. Wayne J. Ciepiela will be Thursday, March 16, 2023 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel Cymer, Administrator. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA, 01201. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne’s memory can be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute or Phelps Cancer Center.
