Mr. A. Richard Chretien Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. A. Richard Chretien, 88, of Pittsfield, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on March 31, 1934, the son of the late Joseph and Isabelle Brassor Chretien, he graduated from St. Joseph High School. Most recently, Richard was employed by General Electric, where he worked as a wiring technician. It was from there that he dedicated 15 years until his retirement in 1982. Before his job at General Electric, Richard also worked at Edwards Upholstery Shop, St. Mary’s Parish, and Greylock Plastics, all in Pittsfield. Among many things, he enjoyed hunting, camping, and family vacations to Hampton Beach. Richard was the first person in Western, MA to undergo open heart surgery, and the third to undergo heart surgery with the then newly developed heart/lung machine. Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, the former Patricia Bullwinkel, whom he married on June 20, 1953. He leaves behind his children, Michael Chretien (Christine), Mark Chretien (Gina), and John Chretien (Melanie), as well as 6 grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Richard was predeceased by his siblings, Edward (Jean), Robert, Charles (Julie), and Bernard. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mr. A. Richard Chretien will be Thursday, August 4, 2022, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 am at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201.
