Ann Goggins was born on August 18, 1932 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Ann Cecile Boyle and William J. Goggins. A 1950 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Ann attended the University of Massachusetts, and went on to Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio where she studied science and home economics, graduating in 1955. She taught science and home economics for 6 years at the former Searles High School, going on to teach home economics at South Junior High School, now Herberg Middle School. She received her Master’s degree from Plymouth State College in New Hampshire in Educational Administration in 1977. She was the last Home Economics teacher in the Pittsfield Public Schools when she retired in 1993. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the international honor society of women educators. An accomplished seamstress, Ann’s creative expression extended to sewing, gardening, basketmaking, cooking, and calligraphy. She enjoyed playing bridge and socialized with a number of friends made during her years in education long into her retirement. Ann was a great traveler. She visited much of North and South America and the Philippines, as well as Eastern and Western Europe. As a teacher, Ann made use of summer breaks to take extensive trips, traveling by ship, freighter, plane, train and car. She was proud to have visited Ireland 18 times, often traveling with family members, proudly showing them her cherished places. Her long-time traveling companion, Mary Ellen Shea, of Dalton, Massachusetts, passed away in January, 2020. Ann enjoyed traveling to family events around the country. She took a great interest in her family. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Anthony, James and his wife Dorothy, William and his wife Mary. She leaves her cousins Patricia Jackson, Susie and Bill Forrest, and their families. Ann also leaves her nephews; Patrick (Denise), Timothy (Joanne), Michael (Kim), Mark(Rebecca), Kevin (Kristine); James (Pamela), Thomas (Ginny), William (Margaret) and Daniel Goggins (Lisa), her nieces, Kate Parent (Thomas), Maggie O’Brien, Mary Beth Eldridge (Scott), Trish Dabrowski (Edmund) and Catherine Blagdurn (Martin). She also leaves many great and great great nieces and nephews. Ann was a former communicant of St. Charles Church and later St. Teresa’s Church, joining St. Mark’s in 2009, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Ms. Ann T. Goggins will be Saturday, January 22, 2022, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Fedoryshyn, Pastor. For all who are unable to attend, a live webcast of this service will be available at http://www.dwyerfuneral.com/obituaries/permalink/10327012/LTWebcast . Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, January 21, 2022, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. Due to the recent rise in Covid cases, to best ensure everybody’s health, all who attend these services will be required to wear face masks.
