Mrs. Carolyn D. Clairmont Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carolyn D. Clairmont, 87, longtime resident of Richmond, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2021 in Dallas, PA. Carolyn was born on February 1, 1934 in Pittsfield, MA to the late Dorothy Decker Plass and the late Louis Plass. She was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1953 graduate of Bishop Memorial School of Nursing. Before retirement, Carolyn worked for many years as an operating room nurse at both Hillcrest Hospital and Berkshire Medical Center. In 1955 Carolyn married the love of her life, Delore M. Clairmont of West Stockbridge. He was taken from us too soon, and predeceased her in 1983. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage, and Del taught Carolyn, a city girl, all about raising farm animals, planting a garden, canning, and freezing their bounty. She was always equal to every new challenge he provided. Carolyn was active in her community for many years, volunteering her time at Well Child Conferences, working with Richmond Community Health Association, and with Richmond Council on Aging as a board member, scheduling van transportation and also driving the van. She served on numerous committees at Richmond Congregational Church, including the Diaconate, bazaar, auction, and many other missions and fundraising projects. Her faith was strong, as was her commitment to her church. Carolyn was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She greatly enjoyed making clothes for her daughters and grandchildren. For many years the grandkids counted on new flannel PJs for Christmas from “Mima.” Carolyn also enjoyed hand quilting and made quilts for each new baby, wall hangings, placemats, and other beautiful items for friends and family. Carolyn loved to travel. She enjoyed many vacations with her wonderful friend, Helen Kingsley. They travelled together as often as possible. They especially loved the coast of Maine and the Blue Ridge Mountains. They sampled wine and ice cream wherever they went, and were great subscribers to the motto “Life is short, eat dessert first.” Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Deborah Howe (Richard) of Shavertown, PA; and Doris (Dorrie) Roedner (Richard) of Elon, North Carolina. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Katelyn Roedner Sutter (Anthony) of Lodi, California, Brian Travis of Shavertown, PA; Lauren Roedner of Alexandria, Virginia; and Julia Travis of Shavertown, PA. Funeral Notice: A private viewing was held for immediate family in Pennsylvania. A memorial service and burial will be planned for the spring in Richmond, MA. COVID19 precautions will be observed. Local arrangements are entrusted to Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St, Pittsfield MA.
