Mrs. Elaine L. Vranas

June 27, 1926 - March 19, 2022

Elaine Louise Vranas, 95, passed away peacefully in her home on March 19, 2022, surrounded by her loving daughters. Elaine was born on June 27, 1926, the youngest child of the late Bertha and Wyoatt Hoxie. She lived her entire life in her home at 31 Jericho Road in Hinsdale. She loved where she lived and never saw the need to leave. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1944 and worked at GE until she married the love of her life, Elias "Jerry" Vranas in 1946. They were married for 54 years and raised 6 daughters together. She met Jerry while fishing the Housatonic and taught him to become an excellent fisherman. She also liked to hunt in her teenage years and was quite a good markswoman. Elaine had a big, beautiful smile for everyone she came across and anyone who knew her knew that she had a fiery personality. Elaine drove school bus for Central Berkshire Regional School District for 25 years, retiring in 1996. Driving school buses was one of Elaine's greatest loves, besides her family. She had a great love for all animals, loved feeding strays, and greatly enjoyed listening to and singing along with classic country music. She was a big fan of the Lone Ranger TV show, watching episodes endlessly. Chocolate and chocolate ice cream must be mentioned as great loves of hers, as well. In addition to her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband, Jerry, in 2001. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Mary Vranas (Altheia Biateranna) of Pittsfield, Melinda Ostellino (John) of Pittsfield, Darlene Casella (Ronald) of Becket, Sandra Vranas (Dan Lambert) of Hinsdale, Patricia Rusilas (Michael) of Ballston Lake, NY, and Catherine Maloney (Rodney), of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, which includes her grandson, Wayne Maloney, who lovingly helped to care for his grandmother. Additionally, she leaves behind 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her cat, Squirt. The family would like to thank HospiceCare in the Berkshires, the Berkshire VNA, and Dr. Catherine Keating for their great medical care. The family would like to express deepest thanks to Elaine's caregivers, Stephanie, Jessica, Stella, Sharon, Teressa, Doreen, and Marisela, without whom, Elaine would not have been able to stay in her home until her death. A very special thank you to Debbie Pratt for her consistent kindness and guidance.
