Norma Phelps Washburn, 97, of Craneville Place in Dalton, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021. Born in Pittsfield, MA on May 18, 1923, she was the daughter of John and Bridget Morrissey Phelps. Norma graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1942. Norma retired from G. E. Ordinance with 33½ years of service in 1985. She was also a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. She was a member of St. Agnes Church in Dalton. Norma was also a member of Pontoosuc Country Club. Norma and Jim spent many winters in Myrtle Beach golfing. Norma’s life was her family who she truly loved and her special husband, Jim. Jim & Norma would have celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary on July 31, 2020. Jim passed away on January 31, 2020. Norma leaves two children, James L. Washburn, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Lexington, SC. And her daughter, Joanne Washburn Rowett and her husband, Peter of Pittsfield, MA. She leaves six grandchildren, Scott Washburn and his significant other, Shelby Powell and Todd Washburn of Pittsfield, MA, Tami White and Jason Rowett of Pittsfield, MA and Amanda Washburn Forbus and her husband, Geoff of Mount Pleasant, SC and Brent Washburn and his wife, Jenna of Asheville, NC. She also leaves 12 great grandchildren, Scott Washburn, Zachary Washburn and his wife, Maegan , Ryan Washburn, Connor Washburn, Allison Washburn, Sarah White, Kellie Wilson and her husband Kameron, Brooks Forbus, Piper Forbus, Myah Washburn and Jax Washburn. and one great-great granddaughter, Paetyn Washburn. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Besides her beloved husband, Norma was predeceased by one brother George E. Morrissey, and five sisters, Mary McGuire, Irene Morrissey, Helen Lester, and Alice Aurswald all of Pittsfield and Winifred Kelly of Dalton. Norma’s family would like to thank the staff at Craneville Place for their kind care the last few days of her life. We would also like to thank, Patrick Bramer and the staff at Sugar Hill who were there for Jim & Norma for the past two years. A special thank you to HospiceCare in the Berkshires for taking such good care of Norma during her last days. Funeral Notice: Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no calling hours for Mrs. Norma Phelps Washburn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when Covid restrictions are lifted and all are able to safely gather together. Donations CANNOT be made online, but may be made through the Dwyer Funeral Home.
