Mr. Robert George "Bob" Miner

DALTON - Robert George "Bob" Miner, 75, of Judith Dr. passed away suddenly on July 31, 2017 at Berkshire Medical Center. Bob was born December 22, 1941 in Pittsfield, the son of George and Eugenia Wilde Miner. He was a 1961 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served on the USS Muliphen as a fire control specialist. Bob worked at General Electric in the Naval Ordnance Division as a Logistics Support Specialist for 40 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Pittsfield and the Dalton American Legion. Bob was, first and foremost, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, brother and uncle. His friends meant the world to him, especially John Cooper, a Cunard Co. naval architect. Bob, who had exceptional mechanical skills, often accompanied John on Cunard ships, including the Queen Elizabeth II, as a ship's systems troubleshooter. Bob was a NASCAR auto racing and motorcycle enthusiast and was well known in Dalton for riding his Segway around town. Bob is survived by his devoted wife, the former Mary Reilly, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage this year, they were married September 14, 1968; daughters Sarah Miner Newell and her husband Mark of Pittsfield and Cathleen Miner-Chiariello and her husband Domenico of Erie, PA; granddaughters Anna Newell and Eva Chiariello; brother Ronald Miner and his wife Donna of Melrose; sister in law Karen Miner of Washington; nephew Michael Miner and his wife Kim; nieces Alexandra Miner, Annette Miner, Jennifer Bailey and her husband Jeff; and great nephew Jonathan Bailey. Bob was predeceased by his brother Richard of Washington who passed away in 2008. Bob's family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bayta Cohen and the caring nurses and staff of the BMC ER and Cardiac Unit, for the compassion and care they showed to Bob. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Robert "Bob" Miner will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with Monsignor Michael Shershanovich officiating. Calling hours will be prior to the service starting at 9:30 am and continuing until the start of the service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Ashuelot Cemetery in Dalton.
