Yvette Henrietta Hyland, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at her home in Pittsfield with her loving son, Allan, at her side. Born in Norwich, CT on March 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Melina Huet Deragon. She was pre-deceased by her two husbands, Thomas Wright of Pittsfield, MA and Gerald Hyland, of North Platte, NE; and her two long-term partners, Jess Collabatista and Edward Flynn, both of Pittsfield, MA; she was pre-deceased by her daughter, Nancy Louise (Wright) Baumann of Cheshire, MA, and her brother and his wife, Eugene and Norma Deragon, of Lamar, SC. After graduating from Pittsfield High School with the Class of 1942, she worked in the billing and inspection departments at Eaton Paper on West St. of Pittsfield, and then moved to Springfield, MA where she worked as a filing clerk for Gilbert & Barker Manufacturing Company, which made gas pumps in the ordnance department for the United States military during the war effort. She also worked at the Springfield Armory where she inspected components for firearms and assembled rifles. After World War II ended, she was employed at Milton Bradley as an assembler. On July 30, 1949, she married Thomas Wright, of Pittsfield, MA, with whom she had all three of her children, and where they spent most of their life in the Morningside neighborhood on Westminster St. They divorced in 1976. While living in Pittsfield, MA, Yvette worked in the sportswear department at the Bell Shops, a dress shop at the corner of Columbus Ave. and North St. Later she was employed at JB Paper Company on Elmvale St., a clothing store called The Plaza Boutique, and at Duti-Togs, a uniform and maternity shop, on Dalton Avenue, and then at TJMaxx, in its original location at the Allendale Plaza. After a brief marriage to Gerald Hyland of North Platte, NE, she returned to Pittsfield to live the next 35 years at Oak Hill Apartments on Crane Avenue. She resumed work, first in the book and gift shop at Hancock Shaker Village, and finally she was employed at the Berkshire Eagle, where she met her dear friend, Phyllis Stankiewicz. Yvette was a communicant of the former St. Mary's Church, and while her children were enrolled at the nearby St. Mary’s School during 1960s and early 1970s, she often volunteered her time in the school’s library. Among many things, she enjoyed playing Scrabble, a game which she organized for many years as a volunteer member for the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center on North St. She enjoyed playing the card game, Pitch, as well. Yvette had a strong passion for movies, enjoying Hollywood classics to modern-day horror and science fiction films. She also dedicated her evenings to watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She loved to dance and attending church suppers. She loved the annual Pittsfield Fourth of July Parade, the Polish Picnic and the Berkshire Greek Fest. Yvette adored her family and cherished her friends. Left to honor Yvette and remember her love are her two sons, Paul K. Wright with his wife Karen (Thompson) of Pittsfield, and Allan T. Wright of Millis, MA and his ex-wife Elizabeth Dembitzer of Holliston, MA; a son-in-law George Baumann and his wife, Terry (Martelle), of Cheshire, MA; six grandchildren Jennifer (Wright) and her spouse Kassy Vorce of Pittsfield, MA, Timothy Wright and his wife, Amanda (Sayers) of Pittsfield, MA, George Baumann, Jr. and his wife Cheyenne (Messer) of Dalton, MA, Amanda Baumann of Long Beach, NY, and Ellis and Adam Wright of Holliston, MA; and five great-grandchildren Camryn and Kenleigh Vorce of Pittsfield, MA, Brooke Baumann of Dalton, MA, and Olivia and Rhys Wright of Pittsfield, MA. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Yvette will be held at Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201, on Friday, March 12, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at St. Joseph Church, Pittsfield, celebrated by the Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Charitable donations can be made in her memory to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home. Donations CANNOT be made online, but may be made through the Dwyer Funeral Home.
