Mrs. Barbara Till Sturtevant

Barbara Till Sturtevant 96, of Windsor, AKA “The Lady on the Lawnmower”, moved to greener lawns on June 16, 2026. She was born April 6, 1930, in Cheshire, MA and lived for the last 91 years in Windsor. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Catherine Bator Till. She married her husband George on November 6, 1948, at the Windsor Congregational Church two years after they met. She first saw George when he entered Estes General Store where she worked at the age of 16. She went home that day and told her mother that she saw the man she was going to marry. They were married for 60 years when George passed in 2009. Besides caring for her cherished family, Barbara loved taking care of her home and doing yardwork. She received many awards at local country fairs for her canning, baking, sewing and knitting. She was always ready to lend a hand to those around her. Anyone who visited her home knew they could count on being served freshly baked goodies and witty remarks. Barbara was the matriarch of the family’s Itty Bitty Tree Farm which “operated from 8 a.m. until mom goes to bed”. She was a legend. She leaves her sons Charles (Diane) of Windsor and Nicholas (Ron) of Nova Scotia, daughters Catherine Hall (Don) of Windsor and Tina of Lanesborough, and daughter-in-law Darlene of Windsor. She leaves her grandchildren, Jeff Hall (Colleen), Andrea Sturtevant McDonough (Mike), Tracy Hall Krobath (Norman), Jacquelyn Sturtevant Putnam (Eric), Daniel Sturtevant (Valerie), Kevin Peterson, Justin Peterson, and Kirsten Peterson Clinton (Ben). Great grandchildren Ryan and Samantha McDonough, Elyssa, Emily and Henry Sturtevant and Camden and Mackenzie Clinton. She leaves her sister Mary Till Hamilton of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband George, son Scott, infant son Bruce Evan (10 days), two infant daughters at birth, granddaughter Donna Marie Hall, brother William Till, and sister Dorothy Till Pritz. The family would like to thank her neighbors, Darlene and Bill Chazey, and the crew at Friedly Freds for being there when she needed them. We are also grateful to the Windsor Volunteer Fire Dept., who she could always count on in an emergency and the staff at Berkshire Medical Center ER and 4th floor for the extraordinary care and support they provided for her and the family. Funeral Notice: Calling hours for Barbara will be Friday June 26, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m at the Dwyer-Wellington Funeral Home in Dalton, 525 Main St, Dalton MA 01226. The will be a service at the funeral home directly following calling hours, at 6pm. Burial will take place Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Hill Cemetery in Windsor at 11a.m. Donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
