Ms. Beverly S. Hayes

Beverly S. Hayes passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones after a long battle with COPD and dementia on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on January 29, 1937, she was the daughter of Carl and Dora Pierce Schorle. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and began a 52-year career as Administrative Assistant at General Dynamics before retiring to help her daughter plan her wedding and watch two of her greatest joys, her grandsons. Bev was larger than life—a force to be reckoned with. She loved spending time with family and friends. She could often be found running errands for friends, cooking amazing meals for everyone, whipping up a breakfast at 2am for the group of friends her daughter would bring home, going to lunch or on an adventure with her grandsons. Up until recently she was still out enjoying her favorite meal, cocktails and socializing with friends and family at her favorite restaurant. Beverly was active on her school reunion committee and in the Zion Lutheran Church. Bev loved to travel she was blessed to have gone on many vacations to Hawaii, Aruba, a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean and many trips to Florida to see her best friend. Bev wasn’t into “hobbies”, but she spent many of nights as her daughter was growing up hosting the neighborhood kids at their house for late night swims in the pool then off to Teo’s and East Side Café with kids & parents after swimming. She spent hours watching the kids play ghost in the graveyard or a pickup wiffleball and kickball game in backyards. She was always up for a spur of the moment adventure from marathon shopping trips, to seeing Phantom of the Opera, watching her oldest grandson play baseball or going on tour to local breweries, wineries and distilleries organized by her youngest grandson. Bev leaves her daughter Michelle Baity and her husband Tim. Her two grandsons Jameson Baity and Cooper Baity and her great grandson Paxton Baity. She was predeceased by her brother Carl Schorle, Jr. Bev was always there for her friends & family; she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, standing up for what is right, a sassy attitude, a caring smile, and an amazing collection of homemade recipes that have been shared through the generations. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Beverly S. Hayes will be Friday, January 20, 2023, at 12 noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held prior to the service, from 10am to 12noon. Donations in care of the funeral home can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to BFAIR.
