Mr. Brian E. McCue

Brian E. McCue, 87, of Pittsfield, passed away Monday evening, February 9, 2026. Born in Lowell, MA, he was the son of the late Edward and Eleanor Cherrier McCue. Brian graduated from Dracut High School (class of 1956) where he played on the state championship baseball team his senior year. Brian attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he met his wife, Nancy Parker. After receiving his engineering degree in 1960, he began an aerospace career, starting at NASA in Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he worked on the Ranger program that sent uncrewed spacecraft to the moon before Apollo. He subsequently worked as an Inertial Guidance System Design Engineer for General Electric at facilities in Utica, NY, Burlington, VT, and finally Pittsfield, MA, working on projects for the US Navy for the Fleet Ballistic Missile programs (Polaris, Poseidon, and Trident) to advance and improve inertial navigation. Brian retired from General Dynamics in 2001 leaving behind a legacy of future generations of Guidance Engineers that he mentored. Brian was a devoted ham radio operator, recently recognized by the American Radio Relay League for 60 years of membership under the call sign K1NM. He spent many years coaching youth baseball for Pittsfield Little League and Babe Ruth. Brian also gave astronomy lessons to adult education classes and public school classrooms. He loved golf and was a longtime member at Wahconah Country Club. Most of all, Brian loved his family, including his wife, with whom he recently celebrated 67 years of marriage, and his five children, with whom he shared his love of summers on Cape Cod, gardening, genealogy, and sports, whether it was skiing, ice skating, baseball, ping pong, wiffle ball, or a toboggan ride. Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Peg Guillon (Patrice) , Michael McCue (Robin), Kathleen Cullen (Stephen), Patrick McCue (Akiyo), and Daniel McCue (Cynthia), and six grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Elaine Levasseur, and a granddaughter, Morgan McCue. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Brian will be Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 12 noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. There will be an hour of visitation at the funeral home directly prior to the service, from 11am to 12noon.
