Mr. Charlie "Chuck" Wood

Charlie Woodrow Wood, affectionately known as “Chuck”, went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2026 after a long illness, at the age of 74. Born on June 8,1951 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Chuck was the beloved son of the late Roy Wood and Daisy Dwyer. Chuck is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Tina Wood; his sister, Marlene Crites; his children, Adam Wood (married to Crystal Wood) and Christine Phillips (married to Matthew Phillips); and his cherished grandchildren, Logan, Abby, Benjamin, Jonah, and Charlie. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother Frank Wood. He made his home in Peru, Massachusetts since the age of 20 after graduating from Pittsfield High School in 1969. Chuck dedicated over 30 years of his life to his work at GE Plastics, where he ran a prototype laboratory. He was instrumental in starting the school-to-work program between McCann Tech High School and GE in 1997, leaving a lasting impact on the community and the many students he mentored. When Chuck wasn’t at work you would find him working outside, often in one of his many gardens, or his workshop. Chuck was known for his unwavering faith, generosity, and loyalty—always the first to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement. His dependability made him a trusted friend, and his humble spirit shone through in every interaction. He loved to teach, whether leading at church or patiently tutoring someone, always eager to share his knowledge with others. Chuck's innovative mind brought new ideas into his work and community, and his sincere nature ensured that everyone he met felt genuinely valued. He was a good listener, making people feel heard and understood, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. We invite all of Chuck’s friends and loved ones to join us in honoring his memory on May 23, 2026 at The First Congregational Church of Peru for a celebration of life. All are invited to a visitation with family between 10:00-11:00 AM followed by a service celebrating his life at 11:00 AM.
