Mrs. Eileen "Pat" Nichols

Mrs. Eileen “Pat” Nichols, 79, of 127 Shore Drive, died early Saturday, December 24, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 6, 1932, the daughter of Costas A. and Mary Moore Mehos, she was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph High School. Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker who raised seven children. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and was a gourmet chef. She returned to school in her 50’s and was Valedictorian of the 1980 graduating class of Berkshire Community College and a graduate of The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She also was awarded a fellowship to study Shakespeare at Oxford University. Mrs. Nichols worked as a freelance writer. She wrote for numerous publications including the Berkshire Eagle, which she contributed to on a regular basis for many years. She was a talented photographer, avid reader and also had a lifelong interest in the arts. Pat had an infectious smile and a genuine love of life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her husband Art, at their home by the lake. She leaves her husband of 58 years, Arthur J. Nichols, whom she married in Sacred Heart Church in 1953. She is also survived by her three sons, Arhur J. Nichols Jr. and his wife Corinne of South Fallsburg, NY, Joseph C. Nichols and his wife Nancy of Pittsfield and Shaun J. Nichols of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three daughtes, Maris Nichols of Pittsfield, Maureen A. Nichols of Cambridge, MA and Marie A. Nichols of Williamstown, MA; two granddaughters, Maya Nichols and Kristal Nichols; a grandson, Joseph E. Nichols and one great granddaughter, Elaisah Nichols. She was predeceased by two sons, Daniel G. Nichols and John F. Nichols and by a daughter, Kathleen M. Nichols. Funeral Services for Eileen “Pat” Nichols will be Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 9 am from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemtery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 4 – 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in her memory.
