Miss Emily Lamson Jahn

PITTSFIELD- Emily Lamson Jahn, 68, of Pinegrove Drive passed away Friday, July 12, 2014 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility, following a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Diagnosed in August 2008, she lived long and well thanks to the outstanding care of Dr. Harvey Zimbler of Berkshire Hematology Oncology in Pittsfield and Dr. Paul Richardson of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Born in Pittsfield, MA on October 26, 1945; the daughter of Fredrick L. and Janet F. Lamson Jahn. Emily was a 1963 graduate of Pittsfield High School, in 1965 she obtained a Liberal Arts degree from Berkshire Community College, in 1967 she received her AB in English from Clark University in Worcester, MA and in 1969 she culminated her education upon receiving her MA in English from UMASS Amherst. (She took her Master of Arts in her own poetry) Emily was employed at Berkshire Community College; starting in 1970, teaching English composition and literature until her retirement in 2008. While employed at BCC she served as the chair of the English department for many years, helped organize incoming students’ assessment testing, and lead the effort to establish core competencies to verify students’ learning. She was a member of South Congregational Church, where she served on the Diaconate. Emily’s interests included art, literature and music; her hobbies include slide film photography and cross-country skiing. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and World Cup soccer. Emily is survived by her brother Peter F. Jahn and his wife Lorraine of Lee, MA, nieces Sarah Jahn of Pittsfield and Lisa Jahn and her husband Michael Oberle of Holly Springs, NC, and her grandniece Lola Oberle and grandnephew Milo Oberle. FUNERAL NOTICE- A memorial service for Mrs. Emily Jahn will be held ?? at South Congregational Church, with Rev. Joel S. Huntington, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
