Mr. Harry E. Freshler, Jr.

Harry Edward Freshler Jr., 90, of Hinsdale passed away peacefully at Lee Healthcare Nursing Facility on Friday, May 27, 2023. He was born to the late Harry and Beatrice Freshler on September 21, 1932, a graduate of Pittsfield High, Class of 1950, and was married to Martha Alice Shock for over 67 years. Affectionately called Junior, Dear, Dad, Pa, and GrandDad, Harry was a loving and devoted husband and father. He received Christ at an early age and was a faithful member and trustee of the 1st Congregational Church of Hinsdale. Harry served his country in the Army from 1951 -1954 as a medic and was a Korean War veteran. After returning home from the war, he met the love of his life, Martha Shock while square dancing. They were married on September 25, 1955, and to this union three children were born. Harry retired from General Electric after 23 years as a supervisor in the Ordinance Department. Harry was a beloved member of the Hinsdale community. He was a part of the Conservation Commission taking care of Plunkett Lake and Israel Bissell site and supported the Lion's Club Dinners and Fishing Derbies for many years, ensuring there were plenty of fish to catch. Additionally, Harry was a member of the Bass Ridge Golf Club (where he enjoyed playing in tournaments with friends and beating his grandsons!), as well as a member of the Wahconah CC Pitch League. He enjoyed Spring and Fall vacations with Mary Lou and the late Bob Galliher in Maine. Harry was also an avid fisherman who truly loved ice fishing and a hunter, a joy he shared with both family and friends. Harry leaves to cherish his memories his faithful and devoted wife, Martha of over 67 years, Sons: Donald (Jean) of St Petersburg FL, Larry (Sonia) of Spokane Washington, Son-in-Law; Hal Ross; Sister: Jean Carmel, Brother: Allen Freshler, Grandchildren: Peter Ross, Barrett and Brett Freshler; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Marie (Freshler) Ross, his parents, Harry E. Freshler, Sr. and Beatrice (Bettinger) Freshler, and his brother, David Freshler. Funeral Notice: Funeral services with full military honors for Harry will be Friday, June 9, 2023, at 12 noon at the first Congregational Church of Hinsdale, 129 Maple Street, Hinsdale, MA 01235. An hour of visitation at the church will be held prior to the service, from 11 am to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Harry’s memory be made to the Hinsdale Food Pantry at 371 Old Dalton Rd, Hinsdale MA 01235.
