Mrs. Joan Wooley

Mrs. Joan Scalise Gattuso Wooley, 82, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, MA, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. Born on July 29, 1940, the daughter of the late James and Josephine Federico Scalise, she graduated in 1958 from Pittsfield High School, the same year she was crowned as The Pittsfield Winter Carnival Queen. For the majority of her career, Joan worked as both a bookkeeper and administrative assistant. She was most recently employed by Berkshire Bank, from where she retired after dedicating 12 years of service. Among many things, she enjoyed skiing, ice-fishing, dancing and traveling the world with “her Raymond”. Throughout her life, she found pleasure in organizing special events for family and friends. In her retirement, she found great passion in volunteering for local political candidates. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, Ray Wooley, Sr., whom she married in 1987. Ray passed away in 2021. Joan was also preceded in death by her son, Peter Gattuso on March 22, 2023, her first husband Charles “Chuck” Gattuso and her oldest brother Joseph J Scalise Sr., whom she adored. She is survived by her sons, Nick (Marnie) Dino and Tony (Sherri), as well as her daughter, Vicki Smith (Dave). Joan also leaves behind her siblings, Philip (Lois) Scalise, Alfonso “Chukie” (Judy) Scalise, Shirlee Scalise Twine, and her sister-in-law Sandy Taylor. She leaves many nieces and nephews who all loved “Aunt Joan”, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Joan will be Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 12 noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201, with the Rev. A Peter Gregory, Pastor Emeritus of St. Charles Church, officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home will be prior to the service, from 10 am to 12 noon.
