Mrs. Johanna Bourquard

Mrs. Johanna Bourquard, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in Springfield, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family, on December 30, 2025, the day after Christmas. She was 80 years old. Johanna was born in Pittsfield to Joseph and Theresa Teti, proud parents of Calabrian Italian descent. A vibrant spirit and beloved matriarch, Johanna lived a life defined by generosity, faith, creativity, and deep devotion to family and community. Her lifelong best friend of more than 60 years, Carole, lovingly described her as “one of a kind,” with a heart larger than life and an unwavering passion for those she loved. Johanna spent her entire life in Pittsfield, dedicating herself to making her community stronger through volunteer service, education, and kindness that touched countless lives. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and later attended cosmetology school. In 1966, she married the love of her life, Joseph E. Bourquard, at Mount Carmel Church. Together, they were devoted members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where Johanna’s faith guided her daily life. Her home reflected that faith, filled with her cherished collection of angels that brought her comfort and joy. For most of her career, Johanna proudly served the Pittsfield Public Schools as a paraprofessional, where she supported and encouraged students with patience, compassion, and dedication. Her work left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike. Johanna was also a passionate and accomplished artist. She found joy in painting and ceramics and especially treasured painting birdhouses lovingly crafted by her late husband, Joseph, who passed away in February of 2025. Through her art, she expressed the beauty, warmth, and love that defined her spirit. Above all her accomplishments, Johanna’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, godmother, aunt, and a loyal and caring friend. She is survived by her son, Joseph Bourquard, and daughter-in-law, Nikki; her beloved granddaughters, Kylee and Kacie, to whom she was a devoted “Nani,” all of Pittsfield; her older sister, Marie Flanders; and her niece and goddaughter, Dr. Susan Glover and Theresa Glover Brown, of McKinney, Texas. Johanna Bourguard will be remembered for her kindness, faith, creativity, and the boundless love she gave so freely to all who were blessed to know her. Funeral Notice: Family and friends are invited to celebrate Johanna’s long and beautiful life on January 6 and January 7, 2025. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m at Dwyer Funeral Home at 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA 01201. On Wednesday at 9:00 a.m., a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, followed by graveside services at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, where Johanna will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, mother, and father. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Johanna’s life and her devotion to the community may be made to either Brerkshire Human Society or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Charities of Pittsfield, where she was a devoted second-generation member.
