Mrs. Marilyn M. Anderson

Mrs. Marilyn M. Anderson, 98, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on August 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Lansing and Marguerite Vincent Clow, she attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1942. After graduating, Marilyn worked for the Pittsfield General Electric (GE) Transformer Division. In 1945, Marilyn wed Robert D. Herlihy, of Lee, MA. Mr. Herlihy, a veteran of WWII and the Normandy Invasion, died in 1954. In 1956, Marilyn married GE supervisor Robert R. Person, originally from Rahway, NJ, and they relocated to Timonium, MD, where they lived until his death in 1960. On November 15, 1975, Marilyn married GE engineer Roger N. Anderson, of Pittsfield, and Roger and Marilyn enjoyed nearly 44 years of life together. Prior to retirement in 1986, Marilyn was employed by Berkshire Community College, where she served as payroll accountant for 15 years. She also worked previously as a clerk at the former Credit Bureau of Pittsfield, and as a secretary in the high voltage bushing section of GE in Pittsfield. She was a lifelong communicant of Notre Dame Church, until its closing. Ever-occupied, spirited, and with magnetic energy, Marilyn was an avid reader of mystery novels, follower of news, and solver of crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with family, clothes-shopping, taking care of her home, movie-watching, and travel. In retirement with her husband, Roger, she was able to enjoy numerous trips, including overseas to England, Scotland, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, as well as cross-country to California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and the Midwest. More recently, she enjoyed the comforts of home under the constant eye of her beloved rescue chihuahua, MeMe. Marilyn was predeceased by her devoted husband, Roger N. Anderson, who passed away April 24, 2019. She was also predeceased by husband Robert Herlihy, of Pittsfield, MA and Robert R. Person, of Timonium, MD. She is survived by loving daughter and longtime caregiver Betsy (Beignyreih) Person, of Pittsfield, MA; stepsons Keith R. Anderson (Susan) of Natick, MA and Brian R. Anderson (Noreen), of Lenox, MA, niece Karen A. Lamont (Matthew Lips), of Southampton, PA, nephew Lansing Luzis, Pittsfield, MA, eight grandchildren ~ Mark, Sheila, Ryan, Brandon, Evan, Cary, Emily and Kevin, and five great-grandchildren. The family is eternally grateful for the assistance of many helpers, including Kathy, visiting nurses and physical therapy workers, and BHS doctors and nurses. In addition to her parents and husbands, Marilyn was also predeceased by daughter Lynda (Person) Eberth, of Pittsfield, MA, son Reed Person, of Timonium, MD, and three sisters, Eleanor Luzis of Pittsfield, MA, Arline Danylin of Lanesborough, MA, and Barbara Lamont of Southampton, PA. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Marilyn M. Anderson will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 12 noon at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. An hour of visitation at the funeral home will be prior to the service, from 11 am to 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Red Cross or the ASPCA
