Mrs. Marilyn F. Viale

Mrs. Marilyn F. Viale, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7, 2023, just months before celebrating her 87th birthday. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on July 25, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward “Vinegar Dick” and Sarah “Sadie” Nestor Farrell, she graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1954. Marilyn’s family was of utmost importance to her. She loved spending time with them by her side, seeing that each of their needs was met with nothing but love and support. She was particularly fond of the holidays. Thanksgivings filled the Viale household and created fond memories for the many family members and friends in attendance; Christmas nights were capped off with carols around the piano. Among many things, she enjoyed travelling with her family. Two cross-country trips with 4 small children were the definition of love and patience. Later trips would take Marilyn and Craig all over the world; various friends and family members joined in their adventures. Education was of the utmost importance to her, and it was with great pride that all four children graduated from college, UMass Amherst, Bowdoin College, Duke and Notre Dame. Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, M. Craig Viale, whom she married on May 18, 1957. She leaves behind her daughter Kim V. Peterson and son-in-law Wayne of Byfield, MA, daughter Lisa M. Viale of Boston, MA. Grandchildren, Nicole Viale, Sarah P. Sullivan, Eric Peterson, Joseph Viale, Gabriella Viale, Kiya Tillery, Madaven Tillery, daughter-in-law, Susan Black of Belmont, MA as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Mark C. Viale and daughter Diane F. Viale Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Mrs. Marilyn F. Viale will be Friday, April 14, 2023, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30pm at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, Pastor Emeritus. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4pm to 6pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA, 01201. Donations in Marilyn’s memory can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of the Berkshires.
