Mrs. Mary C. Benoit Callahan

Mary Catherine Benoit Callahan, 79, of Pittsfield, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility surrounded by her family and friends. Born in North Adams, December 10, 1936, the daughter of John Roscoe & Mary Quintin Roscoe, she attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School class of 1954. She earned her nursing degree from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and her master’s degree from Antioch College. She worked her entire career in health care and was employed for 55 years in public health and most recently at the Brien Center in Pittsfield as a Nursing Supervisor until her retirement in November 2015. Mary married her first husband John “Jack” Benoit February 8, 1958 in North Adams. They were married for 45 years until his passing on November 13, 1993. They lived in North Adams and Stamford, VT, then she moved to Pittsfield in 1995. She married her second husband Carl “Cal” Callahan on July 1, 2000. They were married for twelve years until his passing January 26, 2012. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Mary dedicated her life to her family and helping others. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, always smiling and lending a helping hand. She enjoyed the company of her dogs Daisy and Reilly, going out with her friends, Daddios Diner and traveling to Cape Cod. She is survived by her children, Craig Benoit and his companion Janet Hartman, Keith Benoit and his wife Mary, her daughter Lisa Benoit, her two stepsons, John Callahan and his wife Ann, and Robert Callahan, and her step daughter, Faye Wood and her husband Michael. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Sarah, Taylor, Rebecca, and Ian Benoit, Kimberly Rougeau, Kate Levesque, Michael Wood Jr., and Susan Callahan, her nieces, Claudia Nash and her husband Craig Nash, Jennifer Roscoe, and several grandnieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, John Roscoe. FUNERAL NOTICE The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September, 21, 2016 at 9:00 A.M. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Bishop Timothy MacDonald. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours will be today, Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Berkshire County Jimmy Fund or HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
