Officer Michael Silver

Officer Michael Silver, of Pittsfield, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 20, 2024, just one week after celebrating his 42nd birthday. Born in Pittsfield on October 14, 1982, son of Michael and Susan Stohr Silver, he graduated from Lee High School with the class of 2000 and then went on to the State Police Municipal Academy. Shortly after graduation, Officer Silver began his career with the Pittsfield Police Department. For the last eight years, he has been a member of the Berkshire County Special Response Team as a Senior Tactical Operator and also was assigned to the teams Traffic Unit. In 2015, he briefly served on the police department in Lee. Throughout his sixteen years of service, Michael was an instructor in many different modalities. He not only earned numerous special recognitions from the force, several letters of commendation, a Weapons Seizure Award and Drug Buster Award (to name a few), but more importantly, the utmost respect from each one of his peers. While known and respected as an officer, Michael’s greatest joy in life was found in the relationships he built. His family was the utmost importance to him. Nothing made him happier than being a dad, husband, son and friend. Michael enjoyed wood-working, catching all the crabs on the beach, caring for his animals on his little farm and had a strong love for his country. Michael is survived by his loving wife and very best friend, Alicia Silver (Provencher), whom he just married on October 1, 2022. He leaves behind his children Alexa, Lillianah and Jackson, whom he loved more than anything. He also leaves behind his parents Susan and Michael Silver, sister Emily Silver, his in-laws Bill and Debby Provencher, many aunts, uncles and cousins, Emmaline Silver and her daughter Caylah, with whom he had a special bond, his best friends/brothers, Neil Goodrich, JP Murphy, Cody Civello, John Virgilio, Anthony Lizotte, and Brenna Dorr, as well as the entire PPD and BCSRT. Michael touched more lives in his short 42 years than many others will. Although his journey though this life was much too brief, we find solace knowing that his time here was beyond well-spent. While Michael will be sorely missed, his legacy will always be carried not only by those who were blessed to have known him, but also by all his brothers and sisters in blue. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Officer Michael Silver will be Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11am at St Charles Church. Burial will be at a later date. Public calling hours will be Monday, October 28, 2024, from 4pm to 7pm at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North Street, Pittsfield, MA, 01201. There will be designated time set aside for fellow officers, law enforcement and the Berkshire Health Systems Community. In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to Alicia Silver and will be used directly for the care of their children.
