Mrs. Rosemary Prendergast

Rosemary Prendergast, 97, passed away early Sunday morning, January 11, 2026. Born in Pittsfield, MA on April 28, 1928 to Mary and John Roberts, Rosemary attended Catholic schools including Saint Joseph’s High School (class of 1945) where she was the class secretary and Pittsfield Secretarial School (class of 1946). She lived most of her life with her family in Lanesborough, MA. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years - William (Bill) P. Prendergast, Sr. Rosemary leaves four children, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Children: William Prendergast, Jr. (Donna) of Lanesborough, Mary Louise Trzcinka (Joseph) of Pittsfield, Michael D. Prendergast, Sr. (Nidia) of Pittsfield, and Anne Marie Paris (Paul) of Bonita Springs, Florida. Grandchildren: Adam T. Luscier, Jason D. Luscier (Scott Scaffidi), William Gabriel Prendergast (Britney Danials), Daniel M. Paris (Krystle), Briana M. Paris (Frankie Ritchie), and Michael D. Prendergast, Jr. Great-grandchildren: Alexandrea E. Luscier, Abigail M. Luscier (Kyle Locklear), Henry J. Paris, and Olivia C. Paris. Great-great-grandchild: Ruby Louise House. After secretarial school, Rosemary worked at GE until she started her family and became the greatest stay-at-home mom ever! Once the kids were older, she worked as payroll clerk at the Workshop for the Blind on Melville Street in Pittsfield where she and her manager were the only sighted people. For many years, she volunteered as a poll worker on election days at the Lanesborough Town Hall as well as at Brodie Mountain ski resort so that her kids could have free ski passes. She was an excellent home cook, making sure that the family sat down for dinner together every night. She treasured these times with her family whether it be at picnics, poolside in her backyard, or hosting extended family every Sunday at her home. Being an only child, Rosemary was very close to her mother - Mary Roberts. They did so many things together like crafting, weekly bingo, candlepin bowling, and shopping. Lots of shopping! Rosemary truly enjoyed conversation with both friends and strangers alike, often displaying the famed “gift of the gab” — perhaps earned after kissing the Blarney Stone on one of her many trips to Ireland. Rosemary was deeply proud of her Irish ancestry and traveled to Ireland multiple times with her family. She was an active member of the local Irish American Club and even appeared on stage a few times in their Irish American Follies, which were produced and directed by her husband, Bill. She and Bill enjoyed Irish step dance together and traveled to the Irish villages on Cape Cod. Rosemary and Bill’s home was always filled with music. Bill was a piano player and teacher for years and students came to the house every night of the week for lessons. Once a year, Rosemary hosted a piano recital in her living room where the students’ families and friends would come to listen. A reception would follow with cookies and punch that Rosemary served. The family would like to give special thanks to Windgate at Melbourne Place in Pittsfield, MA and Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, MA for the outstanding care she received. Funeral Notice: Funeral services for Rosemary will be Friday, February 13, 2026, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by the Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will be in the spring of 2026. There will be an hour of visitation at the church directly prior to the service, from 9am to 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosemary's memory can be made to the Mount Carmel Care Center Activities Department in Lenox, MA in care of Dwyer Funeral Home.
